The Nicest Thing

People say the nicest things sometimes. I got to do a musical number in my ward two Sundays ago and it was wonderful! I love playing the piano so it was nice to be able to. I played "I Need Thee Every Hour". People told me they thought it was pretty, which is pretty typical in the church, and that was that. It was nothing special and I didn't think it made a particularly big impact on anybody.

I thought that until yesterday in church, an older man, who I've never spoken to, and rarely seen handed me the back of a notebook on which he had written me a poem. It was the sweetest thing, and it made me cry. There's just something to knowing that something you did brought about the Spirit. Oh, how I love this church.

The Piano
by: Boyd Ricks
21 Aug. 2011

There is a piano made of wood by human hands
in our Church dedicated to the worship of God
Most of the time it is alone and silently awaits
to please the ear, gladden the heart, and prepare us to pray
A young daughter of the Lord did sojourn there
on this sacred day
Quietly, with full purpose of heart
prepared a melody to play
Immediately I recognized the tune
as sweet music filled the air
I listened as she continued in the tapestry of the heart
not alone with my ear, but with the very core of my heart
Never had I needed my Savior more then at that very hour
I wished I was dressed in white and softly said a prayer
The last time I heard music so full of power
we all were
at the very source of Celestial Light
There is a piano made of wood by human hands
In our church dedicated to the worship of God
It might stand alone tonight
But earlier today, wrought spiritual delight

I hope that you were able to feel our Heavenly Father's love for you yesterday. It is one of our great joys and privileges in life to be able to do so!
